Angelo from 4SDesigns loves a bit of visual trickery—trompe-l’œil as the French would put it—in his designs. Something established early was his affinity for making leather that doesn't look like leather.
Before any of the big houses were doing it, his custom denim-effect lambskin pieces for the Nordstrom pop-up were blowing everyone's minds. This season he revisits the concept using a calfskin nubuck with perforated finish that gives the impression of corduroy. Of course this isn't corduroy, it's a beautifully supple nubuck which is more delicately soft than any pair of trousers has the right to be.
A garment like this is about the connection between designer and wearer. The optical illusion means that most passers-by will never give it a second glance, remaining oblivious to the unimaginable luxury.
